Details of Membership of The Parrot Society UK

Prospective members are reminded that membership runs annually from JANUARY to DECEMBER.

Membership of the PSUK is sold as FAMILY membership only.  There are so many benefits:-

  • Everyone living at the same address will receive full PSUK membership benefits, although the limit of TWO early tickets applies to the household and not each inhabitant.
  • A 48 page full colour A5 monthly magazine will be posted to that address. PSUK Magazine
  • You can advertise birds in the Free Advert section, there is no limit on the value of the birds for sale, but we do ask that you price the birds. The Free Advertisements can be up to four lines.
  • Members can also advertise their birds in the Donated Section, where there is no limit on the size of advertisement, and you do not have to show the price of the bird. We do ask for a donation to be paid for this service.
  • There is this large website with a comprehensive array of useful information.
  • At Shows/Sale Days members can hire two tables to sell their hobbyist parrot species. PSUK Shows
  • Early entry for Members to all our Shows/Sale Days at 7.30 am, compared with general public entry at 9.30 am. (But limited to two early entry wristbands per membership). This is a very popular privilege.
  • Reduced entry prices for Away Days to five UK bird gardens on special Members' Days. Days Out
  • Area Meetings insured by the Society and the costs of running the first meeting paid for by the Parrot Society UK. UK Area Meetings
  • The Breeding Register allows members, if they so wish, to record the birds they breed. This is a valuable marketing tool and reference, and is published once a year in the members' monthly magazine.
  • Members receive a discount of one month's premium for Parrot Insurance from Exotic Direct. Parrot Insurance
  • We have a Ring Scheme where parrot leg rings can be obtained at reduced rates and can be marked PSUK with your initials and a number. The supplier is Avian ID on 01209 212775Parrot Rings
  • Members benefit from the service of our Lost and Theft Advice. Please email information@theparrotsocietyuk.org, or call 01442 872245  to report your problem.
  • Club badges and binders for your monthly magazines are available at subsidised rates.
  • Members have voting rights at our AGM held every November, and a free lunch is provided if you attend the AGM.
  • Members have the satisfaction of knowing that the Parrot Society UK has an active Conservation policy and Fund helping parrots throughout the world in their natural habitats. Conservation - The Parrot Society UK

In previous years we have posted out back-dated issues of the monthly  magazine to those members who are late in renewing their subscriptions after the due date of January, but the increase in postage costs now prohibits us from continuing this practice. Instead, back issues of the magazine will be available from the Parrot Society stand at our shows.

If you are a UK tax payer, you can boost your donation (including membership subscriptions) as you can give the Parrot Society UK by 25p for every £1 you donate.
As a registered charity The Parrot Society UK is able to take advantage of the generous UK Government Tax concessions for all charities through the Gift Aid Scheme, provided that you are either a UK Income Tax Payer or you pay UK Capital Gains Tax.

  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK has as its aims the study and conservation of all Parrots and Parrotlike birds other than the domestic Budgerigar.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK is a recognised Charity (No. 268726) and membership of the Society is open to all persons or corporate bodies interested in its objects.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK Magazine is published monthly and is sent to all paid up members.
  • It always contains interesting articles and letters on the practical experiences of members and is of interest to the beginner and more expert alike.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK member is entitled to free, non-trade advertising in the magazine for wants, sales and exchanges of parrots, scarce birds the dealers do not handle often being offered.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK Council and Officers are elected by ballot and are responsible for the proper running of the Society.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK is eager to help the beginner and has published five booklets on Australian Parrakeets, Cockatoos and Parrots, African Greys, Cockatiel & Lovebird Mutations to assist anyone keeping these birds.Other titles will be published from time to time.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK enjoys good contacts with overseas societies and reprints articles published elsewhere to enable all members to keep up to date with what is happening elsewhere in the world.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK makes few demands on its members other than to expect a gentlemanly code of conduct when dealing with other members.
  • Members in dispute can refer to the Council for an independent consideration of the facts - in bad cases a Disciplinary Tribunal may be set up to consider the dispute and report to the Council for a final decision - which could result in the expulsion of an offending member.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK has a number of Area Meetings in operation where members get together to discuss problems and attend film shows, lectures and organise outings.
  • THE PARROT SOCIETY UK tries not to waste money - in past years some 95% of subscription has been returned to members by way of cost of production and posting of the Magazine.
