The 2023 Summer Show on Sunday 9th July, after some heavy overnight rain, took place at the usual venue of Stafford County Showground, for most of the rest of the day in warm sunshine. It was a very busy event, following an afternoon the day before and an early morning setting up stands -
This year's Parrot Society stand featured our brand new collection of parrot species posters, produced by Thomas Arndt publications-
The halls containing members' tables with their birds were a hive of activity for several hours -
.. and there was a particularly impressive display aviary including a fascinating mix of touracos, Poicephalus parrots, lories and tropical starlings -
Generally an excellent day, but unfortunately a few exhibitors still failed to keep to the rules by not filling in their list of birds brought along on the required forms; by still having too many birds in a cage, or undersized cages; and vaping in the hall. Our stewards, official vet, and Animal health inspector were kept busy! We will get there eventually!
Last year's event, on Sunday 10th July 2022, was a very busy day, and the return of our Aviary Competition, with decorated aviaries displayed and judged, was a great draw, with successful winners receiving cash prizes and a framed certificate.
Also, enjoy looking back at the Summer 2019 event: A new feature introduced at December show of 2018 was display aviaries where you can go and see many species of Parrot, and in some case even walk into the aviary and see these beautiful birds up close and talk to their owners to learn all about them. These were expanded at this show, with several species of Pionus parrot, small Parakeets and Parrotlets
